Gift shoppers behave differently from everyday buyers. They often do not know exactly what they want, they are buying for someone else and they are looking for ideas. A well-built gift guide page and a few smart bundles make their job easier, and they can lift your average order value without deeper discounts.

This guide shows you how to build both on Shopify, with the tools Shopify already gives you, and what to watch out for.

Why this works for Q4

Gift buying is a big part of holiday spending, and shoppers are comparing offers. A guide that says “here is what to buy for X” and a bundle that says “these go well together” both reduce the effort of choosing. Results vary by store, so test the idea on your best sellers first.

Part 1: building a gift guide page

1. Decide how shoppers think about gifts

Group your products the way a gift buyer would, not the way you organise your inventory. Common groupings are:

  • By recipient: for her, for him, for kids, for a host, for a colleague.
  • By budget: under a set price, a middle range and a splurge.
  • By type of person: for the home cook, for the traveller, for someone who has everything.
  • By occasion: stocking fillers, secret Santa, thank-you gifts.

Pick the two or three groupings that suit your products. You do not need all of them.

2. Create a collection for each group

In Shopify, go to Products, then Collections, and create a collection for each group. You can add products by hand or by rules, such as a tag or a price range. Using a tag such as “gift-under-50” makes it easy to keep the collection up to date.

3. Build the guide page

Create a page, or use a landing page template if your theme has one, and add a short introduction followed by sections for each group, with a few featured products in each and a link to the full collection. In the theme editor, you can usually add collection and product sections to a page template without code.

  • Write a short, useful line for each group, such as who it suits and why.
  • Use clear photos and show the price.
  • Mention your last order date for holiday delivery. See our shipping cutoff guide.
  • Link to the guide from your menu, your announcement bar and your emails.

4. Keep the facts honest and visible

Write real descriptions, not a list of keywords. A page that clearly says who a product is for is easier for shoppers and for search and AI tools to understand. If you offer gift wrapping or notes, say how it works and what it costs.

Part 2: building gift bundles

Use Shopify’s own bundles app

Shopify offers a free first-party Bundles app, available on all plans, for fixed bundles and multipacks. To create one, go to Apps, then Bundles, then Create bundle, give it a title and select the products to include. You then set the bundle’s price and can publish it like any product.

What to know before you launch

  • Discounts apply to the bundle. If you create a product or collection discount, include the parent bundle product, because selecting only the component products will not apply the discount to the bundle.
  • Shipping uses the products’ own profiles. A bundle does not have its own shipping profile; rates are based on the shipping profiles of the individual products inside it. Test a cart to check the shipping cost makes sense.
  • Check eligibility. Bundles have some limits on which products can be included, so review Shopify’s eligibility notes before you plan a lot of them.
  • Mix-and-match builders need a different kind of app. Decide whether you need fixed bundles or a build-your-own option, and keep the extra weight on your pages in mind.

Bundle ideas that tend to work

  • A starter set: the product plus the accessories most people buy with it.
  • A gift set: a few items that go together, presented as one product with one price.
  • A multipack: the same item in a quantity that suits sharing or gifting.
  • A seasonal edit: a themed set that is only available for the holidays.

Price a bundle a little below buying the items separately, and check your margin first with our net profit calculator. A bundle that wipes out your profit is not a good deal for you. For more on protecting margin, see our Black Friday discount ideas.

Part 3: show bundles where shoppers look

  • On the product pages of the items inside the bundle.
  • On the gift guide page, in a “ready-made sets” section.
  • In your emails and ads as a simple, single offer.
  • In the cart, where a related bundle can encourage a larger basket.

Check before you launch

  1. View the guide and bundles on a phone.
  2. Place a test order for a bundle, with a discount code, and check the price, shipping and confirmation email.
  3. Make sure stock counts update correctly when a bundle sells.
  4. Check page speed after adding new sections. See how to speed up your store.

Final thoughts

A gift guide helps shoppers find the right thing, and a bundle helps them buy more than one thing. Start small: one guide with two or three groupings, and a few bundles from your best sellers. Test them and improve as you learn.
