2. How is the shopify net profit calculator calculated?

  • Product cost = revenue × cost of goods %
  • Shipping = orders × shipping cost per order
  • Payment fees = revenue × fee % + orders × fixed fee
  • Refund cost = revenue × refund %
  • Net profit = revenue − product cost − shipping − ad spend − fees − refunds − other expenses
  • Net margin = net profit ÷ revenue
Example

A store with $20,000 of revenue and 400 orders pays $7,000 for products (35%), $1,600 for shipping, $5,000 for ads, $700 in payment fees, $600 in refunds and $800 in other expenses. Total costs are $15,700, so net profit is $4,300, a 21.5% net margin, or $10.75 per order.

FAQ

Shopify Net Profit Calculator: frequently asked questions

What is net profit in ecommerce?

Net profit is what remains after all costs are subtracted from revenue, including product cost, shipping, advertising, fees, refunds and overheads. It is the money the business actually keeps.

What is a good net profit margin for a Shopify store?

It varies by model and stage. Many healthy ecommerce stores aim for a net margin somewhere between 10% and 20% or more after all costs. Focus on keeping yours positive and stable as you scale.

What is the difference between gross profit and net profit?

Gross profit only subtracts the cost of goods. Net profit subtracts every other cost as well, such as ads, shipping, fees and overheads.

Should I include my own salary?

If you want to know when the store can support you, yes. Add the pay you want to take to other monthly expenses.
